Recently we renovated our bathroom in our successfully and it was painful
process to find right traide/ company to do the job. Sometimes it’s very hard
to deal with tradies if you are not clearly documented what you discussed. Ask
as many questions as possible and if possible, write all item on a paper and
make tradie to sign on it to confirm, don’t’ assume anything.
Here I am sharing my checklist I used during my bathroom renovation.
This list helps to understand what to check or confirm with tradie or company
to whom you intend to give job. This might not be complete list, but something
to start with. I suggest discussing each item and making sure that you both are
on same page. If possible, write all agreed items on quotation. Please feel
free to leave comments with items I missed here for other readers benefit.

Check tradie/ company license
2.
Make sure tradie/ company has work insurance
3.
Make sure that you get guarantee/ warranty
letter with proper receipt on company letter head for work done
4.
Be clear on what is included and what is not (
Example fixtures, Shower screen etc… inclusions)
5.
Clean rubbish (Get rubbish bin) after finishing
work
6.
Any damages to house during the needs to be
fixed
7.
Make sure that no water damages and all pipes
are properly connected to drain/ sewerage
8.
Re-sheet all bathrooms with new board as
existing material and tile - If applicable
9.
Make sure that water will not still anywhere in
whole bathroom ( down slope towards water exit point)
10.
All holes/ cracks needs to be fixed in bathroom
if there is any
11.
Vanity, toilet, cupboard, towel rack, soap case
etc. needs to be fitted
12.
All water fittings needs to be refitted, all
will be mixers from existing ones – If applicable
13.
Existing bathtub pipes needs to be closed - If
applicable
14.
Water proof and there should not be any leaks
15.
Make sure that no items will be rusted if tradie
is supplying taps or any other steel items - If applicable
16.
All job needs to be finished in 10 days ( all
days) and maximum 2 weeks unless both parties agrees otherwise- Whatever the
timeline you are happy with.
I suggest calling and taking at least 4 quotations before confirming
work to anyone. This helps you to get different ideas and understand who is reliable.
